Wallets

What is a wallet?

Wallets are applications that let you interact with your Celo account. Think of it like an internet banking app – without the bank. Your wallet lets you read your balance, send transactions, and connect to applications.

Your wallet is only a tool for managing your Celo account. That means you can swap wallet providers at any time. Many wallets also let you manage several Celo accounts from one application.

That's because wallets don't have custody of your funds, you do. They're just a tool for managing what's really yours.

Read the full guide on wallets at https://ethereum.org/en/wallets/. (Celo is based on Ethereum, so the two blockchains share many concepts.)

MetaMask support

With the Celo network's Donut Hardfork, which was activated on Mainnet on May 19th, 2021, the protocol now supports Ethereum-compatible transactions. This means that users are now able to use MetaMask to interact with the Celo blockchain and dApp developers can more easily port over Ethereum dApps onto Celo.
